Well, the Nobel prize for literature has been awarded, and if you were rooting for Philip Roth or Joyce Carol Oates, I’m afraid you will be disappointed.  The award has gone to French novelist Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio.

No, I hadn’t heard of him before today (and the Book Goddess does not like being blindsided).  However, according to a scholar quoted in the New York Times, Le Clézio is “the most written about living French novelist today.”  I think you should read the article, which will certainly be more informative than I can be.

I am looking forward to reading something by Le Clézio, but I’m probably going to have to wait a while.  I’ve checked, and none of his titles in English translation are in stock at our wholesaler.

Happy Reading!
