We had an excellent discussion this past Saturday about Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin.  There were 18 in attendance, and the general reaction was highly positive.  Mostly, we were struck by the fact that the majority of people everywhere, even if they hold different beliefs or live in a very different way, care about many of the same things:  family, faith, home, work, education…and living in peace.

One of the things that is so remarkable about the book is how vividly it portrays the lives of ordinary people in circumstances that are so different from most people in North America.  Even though they lack many material things, and yearn for education to better themselves, they often have rich personal relationships, wisdom, and a great generosity of spirit.

If you decide to use this title for your book club, you can find questions for discussion at Penguin Group’s website.  I would also add these questions:

What did you learn from this book?

What moved you most about this book?

I really do think you’ll be enriched by reading Three Cups of Tea – so drink up, and enjoy!

Happy Reading!
